Wellness amidst chaos

Welcome to my series on emotional wellness! I also have a podcast on the same content, below is the link if you wish to listen:

My podcast

When things are going out of control and everyday life is hampered by unimaginable events, how to we maintain our physical and emotional health.

I am sharing a few tips and tricks to help you in these bizarre times.

Since most of us are on house arrest, things are certainly not easy.

We are craving for company, some of us are away from family and are finding it even harder to stay sane.

I want to share with you some practical advice to help in not only sustaining in these quarantined days but also help you learn more about your emotions, feelings and how to handle them in the best possible manner.

Let’s first start with the basics.

1. Set a routine for yourself… any way it suits you, this should include enough sleep, that is between 6 to 8 or even 9 hours.

2. Next, start your day with a mug of warm water, if you already do that, maybe try and increase the quantity to 2. My dad drinks 4 jumbo glasses of warm water every morning since more than 30 years. He is 75+ now and is in great shape. I am still stuck at 1…

3. Carefully plan your meals depending on your groceries… eat a mix of healthy food that includes grains, veggies, fruits, more water and maybe your favorite cereal.

4. If you don’t have much help in cleaning and cooking, maybe make whatever you like in extra quantity and eat twice a day. Saves cooking time…

5. If you are working from home, then find some time to workout, either in the morning before work, or during work hours towards the evening, just make sure you don’t exercise on a full stomach. Give at least a 2-hour no eating time before you start working out…

6. Sit for some time away from all digital stimulus and breathe. You don’t have to call it meditation if that sounds too serious… let’s just call it spending some quality time with ourselves.

7. Last, remember we are distancing ourselves socially from people not emotionally… so stay in touch with your friends and family… talk on phone, do video calls, group video calls are so much fun…

The other day me, my brother and sister video called me and we sang together for a while… there was a bit of lag and it was ridiculous, but we all shared a laugh. It was beautiful… add these moments in your life… there will be a time when we’ll look back at these days and wonder at its extreme strangeness…

Before I wrap up, just a quick recap, what you are going to do is eat, sleep, drink warm water at the start of the day, call your family and friends… maybe record a funny video and share with your close friends and gift them some laughs too. Hope you feel better.

We are in this together, hang in there, much love to all, bye…
